Fiddle Witch and the Demons of Doom is a Houston, Texas based instrumental power trio consisting of Jo Bird (electric viola), SPIKE the Percussionist (drums), and Geoffrey Muller (bass). Their epic musical performances combine elements of classical, metal, and rock with a heavy mix of intricate motifs and a highly entertaining stage show.
Bird, one of the founders of Two Star Symphony, conceived the Fiddle Witch and the Demons of Doom project in 2012, as a way to further explore her diverse influences. Because of the complexity of the material, requiring classical level chops and a strange metal based rhythmic drive, Bird had difficulty finding fellow musicians to fit the part.
After several auditions, Bird was referred to Houston underground legend, SPIKE the Percussionist, who not only shared Bird’s classical training but also her passion for metal and rock. SPIKE instantly understood where Bird was coming from musically and the sound began to take shape. Finally, Bird’s longtime friend and fellow musician, the great bassist Geoffrey Muller, came off tour for a brief jam session and he decided to join the band permanently. With their lineup complete, the Witch and her Demons went straight to work. After a successful full house world premier at Rudyard’s Pub in Houston, Texas, the band was approached by Grammy winning recording engineer, Steve Christensen, who immediately took them into the studio to record their debut album, “Fiddle Witch and the Demons of Doom”.
